Rowan (boy)

• means "red headed" which my husband is, and there's every chance he would be!
• he'd be mysterious, sunburnt, windblown, and poetic with eyes like the ocean. i don't care for this name much for girls.
• A very heroic name,  almost magical or mythic.
• I like the sound of this name.

Rowan was used almost exclusively for boys until the late 20th century, when it started becoming used for girls as well. As a name it may reference the rowan tree (also known as a mountain ash), or it may stand for an anglicization of the Irish surname Ó Ruadháin, which comes from the name Ruadhán meaning "red" + a diminutive ending.
